It’s Not Luck. It’s Planning.

It’s Not Luck. It’s Planning.

“It’s not luck, it’s planning” has been the line this firm has run on for 24 years. Tom came up with it back in 2002 — and he’s spent every year since watching it prove true.

From the outside, a lot of financial outcomes look like luck.
– Someone retires at just the right moment.
– A family sidesteps the chaos that usually follows a death.
It looks like good fortune — but up close, it’s almost always planning that happened quietly, and ahead of time.

In this short video, Tom explains what “it’s not luck, it’s planning” really means, why the hard part isn’t building a plan but actually following through on it, and why that turns out to be better news than it sounds. (There’s also a timely reason the line feels especially relevant right now — he gets into that at the top.)

Takeaways:
–   Much of what looks like luck is usually the result of planning done quietly, years in advance.
–   The value of a plan comes from using it, not just having it. The implementation matters.
–   More of your financial future is in your hands. It begins with a plan you can live with and put into motion.

It’s Not Luck. It’s Planning.

People online have gotten really good at spotting things written by AI.

One dead giveaway, a little phrase,

“It’s not this, it’s that,”

Or, “It’s not X, it’s Y.”

So once you see it, it’s everywhere.

I had to laugh, though, because 24 years ago (in the shower), I came up with a line that our entire business runs on.

“It’s not luck, it’s planning.”

There were no robots, no artificial intelligence back in 2002.

I wrote that.

And I’ve spent 24 years watching it get proven over and over.

Somebody retires at the right moment.
Looks lucky.
Wasn’t.

Somebody worked out which accounts to tap into first, and when, and what it did to their taxes.
Looks lucky.
Wasn’t.

A spouse passes away, and the chaos that usually follows, just doesn’t happen.
It looks lucky.
It wasn’t.

From the outside, all these things look like luck.

But up close, it was the planning that nobody saw happening.

Here’s the hard part that nobody says out loud.

A great plan does nothing sitting in your bottom drawer.

We can build it with you.

But it’s up to you.

And that’s the good news.

It means more of this is in your hands than you think.

Yes, a few people in life really DO get lucky.

But for the rest of us, it’s planning.

If you’re wondering how others have figured things out, let’s talk about what it actually takes.

It’s not luck.
It’s planning.
