When I was younger, I didn’t understand why my parents made me make my bed every morning. It didn’t seem like a big deal to me. I thought it was tedious and pointless.
After a while, I started to understand. Making your bed every morning ensures your day will start with discipline. Self-discipline is a learned skill, it won’t just happen over night. We need to work at it.
Practicing discipline takes conscious effort. Practicing discipline is not fun or easy, at first. But, as Jocko says “discipline equals freedom”.
Doing the easy things, like making your bed, is where it starts. This discipline will trickle down into other aspects of your life. It’s these small day-to-day decisions that make you who you are.
What small change will you make today?
