Time and time again I read articles on MarketWatch or CNBC or some other big financial news site about “how much you’ll need in retirement”. These articles are great in terms of recreational, educational reading, but to take it to heart and latch on to some number in an article you read on the internet is nuts.
The authors are not writing with your particular financial life in mind. They don’t know your numbers. They don’t know you. I’m not saying don’t read the articles, but just understand what they’re meant for.
